《arcadia inc.》
Arcadia Inc. (2021) is a project by
Cezar Mocan focused on a
fictional company offering "context-free landscape photography for
the 21st century user". It was curated as solo show called
softpower.exe by
Lizzy Chiappini and
featured in SPRING / BREAK Art Show (New York,
2021). The project was also featured in the
CURRENTS New Media Art Show (Santa Fe, 2022),
Kampüste Dijital Sanat (Istanbul, 2022), and
Sculpted in Our Image, Forged in Our Minds
(online, 2022) which was curated by
Tristan Sauer.
I produced an original
10-minute long score to mix
with the narrated essay, which I released as a 3-track EP.
For the score, we selected the guqin tune 慨古吟,
or "Sigh for Antiquity", which focuses on the Chinese literati's
romanticization of times past. I recorded a take of myself
performing the song, granulated it with the Make Noise Morphagene,
sequenced it with the Mutable Instruments Stages, and mixed it with
field recordings from
freesound.org. The result is
synthetic traditional music and whispers of wind and cicadas.
